Top 5 Things I Survived As A Child

1. Switching from white bread to whole wheat- Tell me, how many of you have gone through this and thought you would die without white bread? Okay...maybe not die, but become severely food deprived due to a reluctance to eat anything but this. I remember when my parents made that dreaded switch to whole wheat, I cried and claimed I would never eat a sandwich again (and trust me, growing up in my family, this was an everyday food plan for school). But no, I have clearly gotten over this minor bump in the road, as I am still alive and well as I write this post (and still happily eating sandwiches may I add!) And while wheat bread never gave me the quite the same amount of joy moulding white bread into butter balls did, I can safely say this is something your taste buds will get use to!

2. Watching the last episode of your favourite television show- Ah, that bitter sweet feeling of finally figuring out how your favourite superhero was going to defeat their evil nemesis and save the world! (okay, let's face it...this is how pretty much all children's shows ended. And if it didn't end this way, you were probably not watching a child's show). But then what? The main character is shown surrounded by their friends and loved ones as a sunrise peeks its way into the distance. The main hero smiles, says some quirky line about love, life, always being friends, never giving up on your dreams (gosh the BS goes on and on) and then the closing credits come up with some epic music and pictures from their future lives (still surrounded by friends and having an ubberly awesome time might I add). And then you sit there at first, still tingling with excitement at how great the big battle for good was! And then...well, and then it hits you. You will never see this main character do anything again. Yup that's right. No more adventures, no more seeing them go days without end wearing the same outfit, no more "let's band together and use the power of friendship!" bullshit (really? like really?), no more corny one sentence slogans, just no more. And while this is still relevant in my adult life today, trust me there are other fish in the sea. You will have a mourning period of about one week where you will re-watch every other episode (possible in another language), youtube your favourite scenes, google endless images of the cast (be careful there are some weird fanfictions one) and cry yourself to sleep in your $40 fan made t-shirt. And then...and then you will find something else to watch. Trust me, that's just how the media works! And while I swear Ash from Pokemon should a 25 year old man, with the same gosh damn pikachu (who is probably level 99 by now or something), this show never ceases to amaze me at how ridiculous the episodes keep on getting. So believe me, good television shows end for a reason. And a good one at that!

3. Switching to basic cable- When my mother told me we were going from 150+ channels to less than thirty, I told her you might as well rip my other lung out because my reason for existence had just been compromised (jokes, although I had a minor temper tantrum). But seriously, what was I going to do for the remaining 4 hours I had after finishing my homework? Study? Heck no! Anyways after this decision, I was determined I would never going to be home that much so that I wasn't going to be bored. I would be out and about and doing something productive. And well, although this is not 100% true (I was probably over exaggerating), I can safely say I've probably been able to keep off about 10 pounds by not gluing myself to the television screen. So good job mom, good job.

4. Banning all pokemon, digimon, yugioh cards and beyblades in elementary- I seriously never understood the purpose behind this. Really, Mr. Principal Sir? Are they that much of a threat that you cannot just simply confiscate them and possibly build your own set of hallographics? A set that may possibly may fund your retirement! Anywho, I remember when these dinky little things were banned and all the guys in my school had a major hissy fit (I did too, but being a girl I had to keep my pain on the inside. It's okay, Michelle, it's okay). The boys then resorted to sneaking in their cards and then playing them after school. So in all honestly, what was probably supposed to be a smart move really ended up being minor rebellion and more free time for the boys to annoy us girls around at recess. JOY.

5. Not getting a pizza lunch- I know, tragic. Having grown up in a middle-income family, my parents never bought into this idea of paying an irrational amount of money for a measly half-warm, ugly square piece of pizza, an oversized cookie that tasted like cardboard and a juice box I could hardly puncture without spilling all over me. And although I agree with this, I find myself contemplating whether I'd do the same for my own child. I mean really c'mon, you're not buying the pizza...you're buying their happiness and inclusion with their classmates! I mean, think about it. Didn't it totally suck when everyone was lining up for pizza while you quietly unpacked your stupid whole wheat sandwich!? (okay, maybe I still hold some resentment). Everyone laughing, eating that dumb cookie that was bigger than their head, sipping on some artificial sugary substance that ended up on their shirt anyways. Oh how I envied them. But now looking back on this as an adult, I can somewhat see what my parents were thinking. By not buying into this program, they not only saved money but they also saved me from a lot of unhealthy food. And besides, once you get to grade 7, pizza lunches became lame...going out for lunch was the new cool!

Storage Wars

So I have been looking for a new jewellery box to hold my overflowing amounts of accessories! This one was bought by my boyfriend about 2 years back for Valentines Day and was perfect at the time (seeing as I wasn't very much into collecting rings and stuff) but now has sadly become such a nuisance. I have very little storage for my earrings and the top can hardly close down now. Also, I hate having to put my necklaces in the middle compartment because they always come out tangled. And on top of that, my chunky bracelets don't even fit in the bottom! I need a new storage solution and I need one fast!

Weekly Tidbits & The Hunger Games

My week has been pretty hectic (I always say this!) but I've managed to relax through some much needed social time with the boyfriend, friends and old co-workers. I got to see 21 Jump Street (which was pretty effing hilarious), eat a lot of sushi, go to new restaurants and might I add...I got to watch the HUNGER GAMES!!! (forwarding on with this rant from this point on).
Wow, can I just say Josh Hutcherson totally delivered as a blonde! Not to mention Alexander Ludwig has the body of a god! All in all, the movie was pretty good (spoiler alert ahead) but sadly, did not meet my highly anticipated expectations. Why might you ask? Well, although the movie was over 2 hours long, I felt that they missed really important parts. I seriously did not feel that the other characters, beside Katniss, were developed enough to empathize and connect with them. In fact, I felt no emotional attachment watching them in their deaths (wow, cold hearted Michelle). But still, even Rue who has such a great significance in the book and as a reminder in later books, got about a 5 minute screen time with Katniss before she was killed off (I still teared up). And the whole cave scene with Peeta and Katniss was okay, but not great, as the temperature never rose above lukewarm (still, he is hot as a mothereff...yeah). I mean, the whole point of the "star crossed lovers" was to get people to sponsor them but in the book Katniss soon realizes she's fallen in love with the "boy with the bread." However, in this movie, I never really finds she battles with what she knows will keep them alive and what she feels in her heart. Additionally, throughout the other parts of the movie they missed so many puns and funny moments between them that I personally thought would have added to the chemistry between them. Despite that, the ending also didn't do much for me. The dogs are supposed to have the eyes of the dead tributes (I thought this was kind of important seeing as it haunts her dreams in the next books) and Cato is supposed to die a long and grueling death to showcase the Capitol's sense of savage entertainment. Nope, none of that... along with Peeta's blood poisoning and new leg (actually, I'm happy to think he doesn't have one). I get it, they can't include it all, but I can't help but thinking it would have been nice. Anyways, there were some pretty amazing add ons in the movie like Senenca Crane's part as well as behind the scenes of how they made the arena. Also, Cato and Glimmer seemed to have a thing for each other which I thought was kind of cute. So will I see the movie again? Probably not. Will I buy the movie? You betcha! Happy Hunger Games readers, xo

Just a Thought

March is finally here, and I seriously cannot wait for summer/spring! Pastel clothing, beautiful flowers, hot sunshine and no school! (except for the fact that I may have to do my internship over the course of 2 months but let's just pretend I didn't say that) Anyways, there's a bunch of things I think I want to do over my 4 month vacation and that starts with learning how to sew! To tell you the truth, I haven't actually used a sewing machine since I was like 8 (yeah, weird) because I was trying to sew together my favourite blanket to set aside in my memory box (where did that go?...new summer goal). Back to what I was saying, so yeah my mom sews a lot and she used to sew a bunch of things for me when I was younger. I really want to learn to make skirts, pants etc. on top of my DIY projects. Funny enough, this was actually suggested to me by my dad, which I guess is quite sweet. Anyways, I should be getting back to doing my essay so I'll leave you with just a few spring pieces I am dying to wear! (but cannot afford) xo!

My Valentine

So yesterday John and I decided to have a very late Valentine's date. Unfortunately due to studying, we didn't really get to spend any time together on February 14th, but it really shouldn't matter what day it is to show each other some love, so we bumped Valentine's day a few days forward :)
Anyways, the day started out perfectly as we went to our favourite breakfast place in Toronto aka Sunset Grill (the one we went to is located just north of Yonge and Eglinton but there is also one downtown). But yeah, so during breakfast we were supposed to exchange gifts for one another. The thing was, since I was out of a job, we decided to make Valentine's day a bit more sentimental and we decided that we had to buy gifts for each other that were $20 or less (do you know how hard this is?) and then we had to tell each other why we got them for each other. However, I had bought John a cookie cake from Ms. Fields and we had to go downtown to get it so I said his gift would be waiting later. He then replied that he'd give me mine when I gave him his. Okay, cool. But funny enough, he took something out of his bag and gave me a bunch of papers and on these papers he labelled them as "boyfriend coupons" LOL meaning I had a coupon for things like ex. a free meal paid by your boyfriend, put make up on your boyfriend, dress up your boyfriend. Aha, it was pretty sweet since he hates doing some of these things, and it didn't cost him a dime :) Very thoughtful (and this was after the roses he also bought me...which he called "extra"). Notably, I used the free meal for my breakfast haha.Next, we then went downtown to pick up the cookie cake that was supposed to be ready by 2:45. Sadly, we got there and it wasn't and it kind of ruined the surprised...but he was so happy for his cookie that I don't think he cared. So then we went upstairs at the AMC and he gave me his gift which was...A NAIL DRYER LOL. The most clever gift ever! I always do my nails and I always screw them up because I'm so impatient for them to dry and he knew that so he got a nail dryer for me! Seriously, the most creative thing ever LOL totally something I was not expecting but I'm so excited to use it!Alright so after that, we headed to his house to kill time because we were going to watch "The Vow" at 7. So went to his place, ended up sleeping and watching "King of Cars" and hurried to the movies (so much traffic)! Luckily we got there in time with good seats (minus the 4 pre-teen girls who kept screaming when Channing Tatum came on the screen) and enjoyed the movie, which was pretty good! Then after finding a free ticket to the next show (which we gave back) we then headed to Spring Rolls to end our amazing day. Anyways, we ate our dinner and recapped our day and then as we were waiting for our bill he suddenly pulled out a jewellery box. It had the sweetest message on it (which I will not disclose here) and when I opened it, it was a gold and diamond heart shaped necklace :) Honestly, I was so floored and I pretty much turned bright red. Clearly, this was like 10x over out $20 budget, but he said he didn't mind because he wanted to get me something special (yeah, kinda feel bad about the cookie cake LOL). But I put it straight on (with his fubbling fingers) and then he dropped me home.
The ending of the perfect night. Anyways, all I can say is that I would have just been content with spending some quality time with my boyfriend, but he always seems to amaze (and out-do) me every single year. He's the most amazing guy, not because of what he gets me but because of the thought he puts into each and every present. Whether that's "boyfriend coupons" or a diamond necklace. And I'm so happy to have someone who treats me as a lady :) Hope you all had an amazing V-day! Love hard xo,

John's Breakfast called the "French Connection." It includes eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast. The place has such good food for low prices and the service is always friendly. Their decor is pretty much all wooden chairs and tables and it really gives you the "home/cottage" feel. Definitely check it out!

Living for the Weekend

Okay so this week has been full of so much stress and I'm starting to feel like such a downer. Work has been a bust, and my marks are tragically going down hill (damn you Science Fiction)! But I feel like all of this is going to change...starting this Thursday! (T minus 5 days) *insert big smile here* So far I have had to stress about 3 tests and 2 essays and as of right now (yes, as I am currently typing) I have only completed 1 test and 1 essay (ugh I wish time went by faster). Anyways, I'm on a much needed break from studying and I just decided to update on what my fabbbbulous week will look like. So here it is!
  1. Thursday- Finish my last test and then go to Snakes and Lattes with 2 of my best girlfriends! I have not properly hung out with these ladies in quite a while and words cannot describe how much I miss them! P.S. Snakes and Lattes is a local cafe in which you can pay $5 (I think) for board games and play all day long! They also offer food and drinks. Best of both worlds :)
  2. Friday- Spend Valentines days with le boyfriend. I know, I know Valentines day is on Tuesday but I am so swamped with assignments that we moved the celebrating to Friday. Our day includes going to Sunset Grill (my favourite breakfast place), exchanging $20 gifts (I'll explain this closer to the date), going downtown, possibly cooking dinner (or eating out...yet again) and watching The Vow! So stoked :)
  3. Saturday- Not sure exactly what I'm doing but my tutoring session got cancelled...so yay for sleeping in!
  4. Sunday- Completion of my first weekend with no more work. Oh yeah, did I tell you? Tomorrow is my last day at Aritzia...for sure this time! I finally feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can finally take some time for me (of course I'll probably be stressed with money but we'll worry about that later)!
Anyways, I should be getting off this, seeing as I should be studying (in reality I'm going to watch "Ice T loves Coco" and eat shrimp crackers). Hope you're having a great Saturday! xo

PPS. Here's some more outfit photos for the stressful things in life!

The perfect exam outfit when stressed. 1. Aritzia "Wilfred Free" Wool Sweater/ 2. Wilfred "Community" White Tank/ 3. Aritzia "Wilfred Free" Terry/Sweat Pants/ 4. Michael Kors Gold Watch (count downing the minutes for the damn exam to be done!) Another thing, I wish I took a better shot of the pants...that string in the middle is bulging in the wrrrroooong place LOL)
Outfit for work...where I'm stressed! 1. H&M Black Demin Jacket/ 2. Aritzia "Wilfred" Bustier Top (brown florals)/ 3. Urban Outfitters High-Waisted Jeggings in Maroon/ 4. Michael Kors Gold Watch. Oh yeah, and you probably noticed, I never show my shoes but that's just because I don't want to mark the floor by walking with them in the house haha but I'll start showing them more often)

Dedicated to the One I Love, Hey!

So, I can't help but be in a good mood when I listen to this song. Basically puts me in the mood for some good loving! (Ew, no not what you're thinking) What I mean is that it puts a smile on my face because it always reminds me of my boyfriend. Oh, killing me softly and I'm still falling. Still the one I need, I will always be with you.

So remember, be good to each other, love to the fullest and stay happy! Yup, Beyonce you got me hooked on this song, touche.

New Year, New Change?

Hey everyone, happy new years! I can't believe we're already in 2012 and I'm going to turn 21 this year but I'm so excited for new and exciting adventures! Anyways here are some of my goals for the year, nothing fancy or special but things I'd like to keep in mind :) Enjoy!

- Read more (I can never seem to find the time to sit down and do this, but hopefully with less work this can be accomplished)
- Be more healthy aka actually go to yoga and the gym with my girls
- Take care of my skin (I guess this ties into eating healthier)
- Get a new haircut...OKAY I'm always really scared about having people touch my hair but OMG my hair is so dead, lifeless and gross that I need it cut! And for the new year...no more Asian barbers! They make my hair so thin :( I need to find out how to style my hair...and make it thicker =.=
- BE MORE POSITIVE <3 (something I think we can all benefit from:D)

Anyways, I haven't been on this lately, but just to recap how I celebrated the ending to 2011, here's some of the best moments with friends! (Although, I wish I had more with family)

The Start of Something New

Welcome to my blog! Happy to say that after the internal debates within my head, I have finally decided to make a page where I can finally organize all my memories and hobbies into one collective space. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what this blog is really going to be about but I'm sure I'll have doing it :)
